That very beauty incurred the wrath of Aphrodite, who ordered Eros to make the princess pay the price with his golden arrow.

Yet the golden arrow of Eros pierced not only Psyche—it struck Eros himself as well.

Concealed from Aphrodite’s watchful gaze, Eros and Psyche shared their love only under the cover of night.

The deeper their devotion grew, the more doubt and unease took root in both their hearts:

Psyche, yearning to confirm Eros’s identity with her own eyes;

and Eros, craving Psyche’s heart to be pure, flawless, and whole.
