Solid story that asks the question, 'If you could give yourself magical depression in the wake of a war against an evil supernatural force and a horrific breakup in an attempt to cope with your PTSD, how badly would that f*** up your relationships?" The answer is - quite a bit. The resulting emotional damage mirrored between father and daughter ends up emphasizing just how similar they are as they navigate their way through those consequences, while also dodging racist dragons, politics and romance. The manwha makes some welcome changes from the novel, remixing events and ages for better pacing. The developing relationship between Diamid and Jaina is definitely slow-burn; there is no easy fix, just time and consistent effort as they learn about each other and themselves. The supporting characters are a blast as well and while they primarily exist to support Jaina, they also feel like well-realized characters themselves whose smaller stories you want to follow. Fans of Frieren may especially enjoy another take on a story that happens after the Demon/Ghoul/Other Supernatural Horror King is defeated and life goes on.
